ZAMBIA - The Ministry of Agriculture has approved an application from an investor who has expressed interest to develop Luswishi farm block in Lufwanyama.

Minister of Agriculture Given Lubinda said the name of the investor will be announced once cabinet has been informed about the development.

Mr Lubinda said this is in line with President Lungu’s directive to develop farm blocks across the country.

He said in an interview recently that Government wants to encourage private investors to help develop infrastructure in the farming blocks which have remained undeveloped for over 13 years.

“The idea of farm blocks was initiated in 2002 but they have remained undeveloped because of long procedures of identifying co-ventures.

Mr Lubinda said his ministry will present before cabinet this development for its approval, after which the signing of the contract with the investor will follow,” he said.

He said Government will soon advertise for investors who might be interested to invest in other farming blocks across the country.s

Mr Lubinda said Government is determined to ensure that investment in farming blocks materialises.

“Thirteen years after the initiative was started, we have started rolling out development plans. We are very serious with diversification to agriculture,” he said.

He said government wants to make sure that more focus is given to the agriculture sector.
